5.5 millions years insects
Long time before human evolution, a cave in what is now Romania was cut off from the rest of the world. In this old time capsule, called the Movile cave, sealed from the air and from daylight so as from the world above, an underground ecosystem rich in hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide but very poor in oxygen has been developped. 48 species have been separated from the outside for the past 5.5 million years, leeches, spiders, scorpions and insects, were found inside the cave, of which 33 are endemic.
